Boise, ID (5/9/18)— Two winning streaks will be on the line at UFC Fight Night 133, when Darren Elkins squares off with Alexander Volkanovski in a Featherweight bout on July 14th at CenturyLink Arena. It is the seventh fight announced for Idaho’s first-ever UFC event.
Elkins (24-5-0) carries a six-fight winning streak into his 19th UFC event, earning a victory in January at UFC Fight Night 124 with a second-round submission of Michael Johnson. The 33 year-old out of Indiana has not lost a fight since UFC Fight Night 58 in December of 2014, since then winning four fights by decision (three unanimous), one by submission, and one by TKO. Of Elkins’ 18 UFC fights, 12 have gone the distance.
Volkanovski (17-1-0) will make his fifth appearance for UFC, and his first on American soil, looking to extend a 14-fight winning streak. The 29 year-old Australian has earned two victories by knockout and two by unanimous decision in his first four UFC bouts, most recently defeating the previously undefeated Jeremy Kennedy at UFC 221 with a second-round TKO. The only loss for Volkanovski came in May of 2013 at Australian FC 5, his fourth career fight. Since then, he has earned eight wins via knockout or TKO.
Elkins and Volkanovski join a fight card that already features the Main Event Heavyweight bout between Junior Dos Santos and Blagoy Ivanov, along with five other fights. James Vick and Paul Felder meet for a Lightweight bout, and Myles Jury will fight Chad Mendes in the Featherweight division. Cat Zingano (9-3-0) meets Marion Reneau ( 9-3-1) in a Women’s Bantamweight bout, along with the Women’s Flyweight fight between Liz Carmouche (11-6-0) and Jennifer Maia (15-4-1). Also in the Flyweight division, Justin Scoggins (11-4-0) battles Said Nurmagomedov (11-1-0).
